I could see the menu and I did a check disk which resulted in “No errors found”. Since you suggested on my other topic that I should press a key to see it, i tried that again with Rufus I tried writing the image with Rufus, but I couldn’t see this menu at that time. I’ve used this and the other tool (multi boot) from pendrive linux for years. I would say, it indeed is beautiful.I’ve used Universal USB installer from pendrive linux to write the image (first link you posted) It worked and the Linux screeen appeared. Then to check the USB, I tried with restarting my laptop and pressing F12 button to go to startup BIOS mode and there chose the option, “Try Xubuntu without installin”. Testing the USB (if it works on another system) Will try to find out the speed difference and the development differences. Then I created Live USB with the latest version with a USB 3.0. Note: The link in the note on your website didn’t work. Something like following picture happened. So I learned that checking about version is important.)Ģ. But because of 12.02 being outdated, there were some problems I faced. So later I updated my USB with new version 14.04. * (Update on : I did this task with Xubuntu 12.04 but the task was supposed to be done with 14.04 version. In step 3, as asked, I chose my USB name and chose the option to format it. I chose Xubuntu and browsed the path for the image I already downloaded ( Xubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bit)*. Installer asks to choose a Linux distribution. This is how further steps were carried out: As suggested, will make one on 3.0 version too to feel the difference in speed.Īfter searching through Google, I decided to install Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.6.3.exe. I am using PNY USB 2.0 FD USB device as I am having this one right now. But for now I just continued… Creating Live USB I will create a presentation page for the effort I tried, because it might work in your case, and maybe you could find a suggestion or solution for me. I found out that I can’t create partition for some reason. I created a page of the work for creating partition. □ I followed steps from the link: Īs I am using Windows 10 and trying to explore what Windows have updated with their product now. May not be required here for this task, but with the thought while learning I need to have Linux installed on my PC for trying all the experimentation I want to perform. The laptop information: Dell Inspiron 1525 Creating disk partition to install Xubuntuįirst I tried to create a partition for Linux. Taking Backup is importantĪs advised, before doing anything with Linux on my laptop, I first took backup of my files on a Hard Disk. So to reach to BIOS, to boot the system from USB, i had to press F12, from the moment I turned on the Laptop again, as my Laptop (DELL Inspiron 1525) doesn’t support automatic BIOS setup on booting. While doing the assignment, after creating a Live USB, I checked if it is working properly or not. This is an assignment while doing the Linux Basics course by Tero Karvinen in Haaga-Helia UAS. Have worked on Linux once or maybe twice, but practically I am completely new. This is the first assignment in Linux class.
